Backyard BBQ Downpour!

Raindrops streaming down the sliding glass door

Huddling underneath the awning of the carport, trying to keep the grill going! It was tough fully capturing how tiny the space was we were huddled :).

The smells of rain and smoke, the sounds of laughter and the tastes of BBQ all wrapped up in one is an experience I know I won't get often, so it was an experience to me worth capturing. Last week was a wonderful week filled with such memories, for my mother-in-law Maggie Hansen traveled down from Alaska, then Indianapolis to come visit Stephen and I for the whole week. Not only did she get to experience Del Rio's classic record heat, but she also saw how suddenly we can get an intense downpour without a single hint of it's arrival. Welcome to Del Rio!

We started out the week visiting Silver Wings, the on base cafeteria overlooking the flight line, and timed our viewing just perfectly to spot Stephen taking off in the T-6 while enjoying some classic cafeteria grub. On Friday, our highlight was attempting to get our charcoal grill going for some burgers at home, just as a very unwelcome downpour decided to grace us with it's presence. It didn't phase us one bit, as we were still able to get the burgers cooking underneath the overhang of our little carport, and made for lots of laughs, and a wonderful memory!

In true Maggie style, the rest of her stay here was very laid back, with lots of great conversation, games, and great cooking! We soon discovered after traipsing about downtown Del Rio in the random odd eateries around town that if we were craving anything other than good carne asada tacos...we were better off cooking at home. So cook we did! We made lots of food and lots of memories over the stove and kitchen table, which is where I think some of the best memories are made :).

Packed like sardines, this was about all I could capture before the camera had to be put away before it was drenched!

View of downpour from the inside window, just inches from where Maggie and Stephen were flipping burgers :).

Our cat Jenga watching the downpour from underneath the table, wondering what the crazy humans are up to.
