Adventures in Del Rio

Ashley and Ryan Beardmore

Cruising along the narrow secluded road of highway 90 just two and a half hours south of San Antonio at 4:00 this morning was no joy ride. I should have heeded the warnings of my husband and my mother, but my stubborn nature and determination to catch the early flight out drove me right into what felt like a scene from an old school terror flick. For a split second my heart nearly stopped, and my eyes widened like a deer caught in headlights.... Oh wait, no that was the deer that appeared about two feet in front of my car. Going 70 miles an hour, my gut reaction was to swerve off onto the shoulder. Thank goodness God had his guardian angels all around me! I thought I was totally prepared for the drive with my jet-fuel-strength coffee in hand diving 5 miles below the limit, but for you Del Rio-ites looking to get away for the weekend, I caution you, I would not risk driving in the dark, as those deer won't budge.

Oh the lengths I'm willing to go to escape this hot box on the Texas Mexican border and visit my much missed family and best buddies out in Southern California :). Though I bag on Del Rio, I do have a love-hate relationship with it. What I have loved about living here is the tight knit community living on base fosters. Stephen and I have gotten to be good friends with our neighbors Ashley and Ryan Beardmore across the street, and have loved hopping across the street for barbecues, board games, bachelor nights for the girls and halo parties for the men :).

Ashley and Ryan had a quick wedding ceremony not long ago right before Ryan had to leave for his Air Force Training, so they are planning a larger ceremony for later. Call them Engagement Pictures round two, or Anniversary Pictures, I jumped at the opportunity for a photography session of the beautiful couple with the T-6 planes here at Laughlin Air Force Base. Aren't they cute??

fixing his patch :)

I didn't tell him to do this, nope this just happened :).

  1. Love these photos Candace! And so glad you were safe on your early morning drive- a rollover car accident is no walk in the park let me tell you. Hope to see you and Steve soon! xoxo Meg Saljian
